Storyline: An engaging parable about a small town newspaper editor Ed Cunningham (Ericson) who is waging a losing battle against the powerful land baron (O'Connell). But the people of Abalone are transformed once Dr. Lao (Randall) brings his enigmatic Chinese medicine show to town.

Library focus: Cunningham's attempts to win the hand of Angela (Eden), the beautiful young town librarian, don't fair to well. Several scenes, including a pivotal town meeting, take place in the library, but if it weren't for the sign you would never recognize it.
